- In 1953 Anton Jansen started as an office boy with one of the largest
building merchants in Southern Africa and very soon gained knowledge of
building materials, sales, purchasing, accounting and managing.
To widen his horizon he joined a construction company and learned
quantity surveying, site management and tendering.
- In 1969 he was ready to start on his own and decided to specialize
in refurbishment and restoration of historic structures. Notwithstanding
job reservation he turned many a labourer into a fine craftsman and
dry-packed stonewalls or cow dung covered floors are undertaken as
meticulously as reed ceilings or replacing a weather vane high upon a spire.
- The restoration of sandstone buildings was a logical step and
became a separate venture, presently run by his son. Stonemasons
are a scarce commodity therefore hi-tech machinery from Italy assists
the sculptors in coping with mass production for modern buildings.
- Bert Griffioen joined the A J Group, first as a student (1997)
and later, after a short spell on his own, became co-director of
A J Renovatum (Pty) Ltd. He is a Building Management graduate
and with his academic background makes A J Renovatum thé company
to offer the client the perfect product.
